The safety shower control valve for use in chemical environment has a spring-loaded push-button (114) which opens the water flow valve and provides the shower flow. The button operates on a push rod (106) which is coupled to a spring-loaded valve sleeve by ratchet tags (120) and which opens the valve. The return stroke for the valve is damped by a pneumatic brake cylinder (107). The decoupling of the sleeve and the control rod provides a controlled return of the valve setting independent of the pressure in the water line.
