Ignition timing control device for an i.c. engine comprises a disc (1) mounted on the crankshaft (4). A peripheral portion of a sector (100) of this disc (1) is made of material that is electrically different from the rest of the disc (1). Passage of this sector (100) during rotation is detected by proximity switches (2,3) which, in response, supply ignition control signals to ignition coils (7,8), either direct or via an ignition control unit that receives another control input, e.g., signals indicating manifold pressure from a negative pressure sensor (5). The number of proximity switches (1,2) is half the number of engine cylinders.. Crankshaft position is more closely related to engine running state, the device giving preciser control than, e.g., control based on position of a distributor shaft.
|
