A blind socket (3 3') is provided at each axial ectremity. The demountable head (1) attaches to a hand lever to form a socket spanner and is used to tighten or loosen nuts and bolts. The sockets may be of different sizes and an axial non-circular hole (4) thrugh the separating wall (4) receives the spigot end of a hand lever. Alternatively the sockets may be the same size and may be of a hexagonal or a square cross section. Heads with different sockets require half the number of sizes used to constitute a set and those with two identical sockets double their useful life.
