摘要 PURPOSE:To suppress the occurrence of crimps and irregular textures, improve the mechanical strength and moldability and obtain the titled cloth for thin reinforcing materials, by weaving an acrylic fiber bundle in a specific basis weight range, and oxidizing and carbonizing the resultant cloth under heating and specified conditions in the order mentioned. CONSTITUTION:An acrylic fiber bundle, preferably consisting of an acrylonitrile copolymer containing 94wt% or more acrylonitrile in the monomer component, it woven at a basis weight in the range expressed by the formula [W is the basis weight of the cloth of the acrylic fiber g/m<2>; C is a coefficient of the cloth (texile) design; D is the denier of fiber bundle (units of 1,000 deniers); S is the shrinkage of the fiber bundle on oxidation and carbonization; Y is the yield at the time of carbonization]. The resultant cloth is then oxidized in an oxidizing gaseous atmosphere, e.g. air, at 200-350 deg.C under heating and no load to give a fiber density of 1.35-1.52. The oxidized fiber is subsequently carbonized and graphitized in an inert gaseous atmosphere, e.g. nitrogen, at 700 deg.C or above. EFFECT:No bulking.
