The seal for a liner for a pressure cylinder has a ring (12) which is inserted into the liner to position against the bottom corner of the liner, where it sits in the base ( 11) of the cylinder bore. The cylinder pressure operates axially and radially on the ring to complete the seal between the liner and the bore without any axial thrust on the liner. The sealing ring (12) has a rectangular profile and with one sealing ring (16) against the liner (10) and another ring (17) against the bottom of the bore. The sealing rings extend over only part of the relevant surface of the ring so that the pressure effect on the seals is enhanced.
