The ball joint for a windscreen wiper linkage is pressed from a single wire preform using a small number of press operations. The finished joint has a ball section on a mounting shaft which is fitted into the drive lever. A retaining collar locates the shaft in the lever and the whole joint is pressed with no waste. The ball section has a circumference with a reduced diameter for simple fitting. The last press operation moulds the locating collar. The whole assembly is low cost and uses simple fly presses.
