A porous gas diffusion electrode comprises a plurality of layers (6, 7, 8, 9, 10) of conducting tape having transverse channels, the layers of tape being superimposed one upon onother with their edges aligned to form the two sides (12, 13) of the electrode respectively. The open sides of the channels in one layer are thus closed by the overlying layer to form preferably tapered, transverse passages (11) extending from one side of the electrode to the other and thus providing the porosity of the electrode. The conducting layers may be formed from a single continuous tape which has been coiled to form a flat disc or a cylinder. |
