PURPOSE:To prepare pristanol in a short time, in high yield, by culturing microorganisms capable of oxidizing pristane, in a pristane-containing medium in the presence of a nonionic surface active agent. CONSTITUTION:Bacteria belonging to Nocardia genus and capable of oxidizing pristane, e.g. BPM-1613 strain (FERM-P No.1609), are cultured aerobically in a medium containing pristane as main carbon source and added with a nonionic surface active agent such as sorbitan fatty acid ester, polyoxyethylene fatty acid ester, etc., and the produced pristanol is separated from the medium. |
