Lightweight rear subframe for front drive car - has fibre reinforced plastics with two support hinges

The lightweight rear subframe for a front wheel drive car has a fibre reinforced plastics moulding to form a torsion resistant frame between two pivot points on the chassis and the two rear wheels. The moulding is reinforced in areas of stress and requires no welding or assembly before fitting. The wheels are mounted in moulded holes in the ends of the frame with two curved arms (31,32) forming the shape of the frame. The arms are closer in the centre of the frame where ribs (12) provide a linking strength. The frame is made in one simple moulding and forms a one part fitting, apart from the fitting hinges.
