The locomotive wheels slippage, especially encountered on inclines, is countered by introduction of a linear motor (7) acting on the rails (8). The main traction (11) motor may be a DC or asynchronous type from which power is taken via a converter (6) to the linear motor windings. The linear motor is brought into oeration by a sensor circuit (9) capable of detecting wheel slip. This closes the power line switches (10) from the converter to the linear motor. Where an asynchronous main motor is used, the converter provides a slightly higher supply frequency to the linear motor than the synchronous speed of the main motor. In order to avoid unbalance the linear motor should act on a central rail or on both rails simultaneously.
|
