Idling duration limiter for motor vehicle - uses accelerator pedal sensor connected to engine shut=down mechanism via delay circuit to detect driver's absence

The circuit prevents a vehicle engine idling indefinitely due to the driver having left his vehicle. The circuit is applicable to both diesel and petrol powered engines and relies on a sensor (7) positioned close to the drivers accelerator pedal (1). The sensor detects the pedal idling position and after amplification (9) initiates a delay in a further circuit (10) which provides power to a mechanism (13) such as an air intake valve (14) or a fuel line valve which can shut the engine down. Alternatively an electromagnet or an electrical switch can serve the same function. The delay in operation can be between tens of seconds and several minutes. The circuit is especially directed at public service and commercial vehicles where idling time can be 10% of the overall engine working time.
