Pressed mouldings with a three-dimensional curvature, e.g. curved lids of boxes, are made of a base element, consisting of chips of fibrous materials with a thermosetting binder, and an outer decorative layer, e.g. a hardwood veneer. The veneer plate has slits or cut-outs at the ends and is laid on the base element which has been moulded by cold pressing. The edges of the slits or cut-outs receive an adhesive coating and the operation is completed by a hot press technique. This results in a firm joint between base element and veneer and retains the uniform pattern of any decorative graining in the veneer.
|
