A flow control valve comprises a valve body 20 loaded by a spring 21 towards the inlet and having an outlet connected to ports 38 of a sleeve member 13 fixed in the valve housing. The sleeve 13 has a passage 12 formed with two cylindrical throats 36, 37 while the valve body has two cylindrical lands 24, 25 which throttle the flow between the lands and throats in dependence on the degree of penetration of the lands in the throats. A flange 28 on the valve body co-operates with a tapered portion 39 of the passage 12. The valve body is provided with a through passage 30 such that the flow past the flange 38 is divided into two portions, one of which flows through the valve body and between the throat 36 and land 24 to ports 38 while the other portion flows to the ports 38 past the throat 37 and land 35. The valve body is positioned in accordance with the pressure drop across the body and the force of the spring. The passage 30 in the valve body may be replaced by a passage in the housing. The inlet may be positioned at the place corresponding to groove 35.</p> |
