Automatic brake for trailer - uses inertial operating masses to drive brake linkage independent of drawbar fittings

The automatic trailer brake has one or more inertial masses (1) which are displaced in the direction of travel when the towing vehicle brakes. These masses apply the trailer brakes via a mechanical or hydraulic linkage. The brake operates without a complex telescopic drawbar. The brake can be applied to any vehicle and the masses are chosen to suit the trailer weight. For improved mechanical advantage the masses operate levers linked to the brake controls. No brake connection is required between the towing unit and the trailer.
