IC engine turbocharger system - has gas inlet formed by bimetallic disc to give automatic control

The turbocharger consists of an exhaust turbine (10) and a compressor (11). Exhaust gas is supplied through inlet (16) and enters the turbine rotor through slit (17). One wall of the slit consists of disc (19) which is made of a temp. resistant bimetallic construction. The disc (19) deflects at higher temp. so that the width of the inlet slit (17) is adjusted. The turbocharger is therefore controlled automatically without any external control mechanism. The disc (19) can be made of compound construction to obtain more sophisticated control.
