<p>This invention relates to a method of producing a weft-knitted material having hook-like engagement elements suitable for repeated face- to-face engagement and disengagement with complementary loop material, the engagement elements being in the form of monofilamentary members interknitted into and upstanding from a base fabric 20 and each having at its free end and extending generally transversely thereof, an asymmetric engagement member, said method comprising: (i) knitting a base fabric layer 20 and simultaneously knitting about lancets 14, a sequential series of monofilamentary pile loops 22 upstanding from the base fabric layer 20; and (ii) contacting upper crest portions of the loops 14 with a heated member 38 with relative translational movement therebetween so that the loops 22 are formed into pairs of upstanding monofilamentary members with transversely extending melt-formed engagement member 46. <IMAGE></p> |
