Target practice device for small arms - uses sensor on weapon to receive light signal from diode groups incorporated in target

The shorting training device has a target which transmits a coded, modulated light beam picked-up by a sensor mounted on the weapon. The sensor is coupled to an evaluation circuit including a decoder and a switch linked to the trigger of the weapon. Each concentric ring (1...10) of the target has a respective light transmitter (32A...32J) characteristic modulation code. The decoder discriminates between these codes to control a display indicating the target ring (1...10) receiving the 'hit'. Pref. each ring (1...10) of the target incorporates IR light emitting diodes, the diode groups coupled to an electronic switch (11) and a drive circuit such that each third diode group transmits simultaneously.
