<p>Apparatus for preparing a beverage, such as coffee, by extraction of soluble matter from a solid flavouring material into a liquid, in which a jug in the form of a thick walled vessel (12) supported in a frame (14) acts as a cylinder, and a piston in the form of a capsule (46) containing a flavouring material (54) is arranged to be moved axially within the vessel. A screw thread (38) on a rod (36), to which the capsule is detachably secured, engages in a threaded boss (34) of a domed lid (28) of the vessel to allow the capsule to rotate as il moves axially within the vessel. The capsule has liquid permeable membranes (56, 62) to allow liquid to be forced through the capsule to extract the flavour from the material within it without any of the material being able to escape.</p> |
