Divided roller - has adjustable sections to orient moving fabrics

The diameters of the roller sections are of different sizes, to straighten moving pices goods by orienting the lines of wefts and/or stitches. The sections of the divided roller are so constructed that the outer surface is made up of segments, on adjustable beams, to be moved radially as required, using setting bolts and axial cone discs. The segments are supported by leaf springs to prevent them from moving back, with the springs held radially on elastic mountings. Alternatively, the segments are supported by coil springs pressing against hollow rubber tyres to prevent friction wear, the tyres being inflatable to alter the position of the segment in question. The divided roller is operated by a speed controlled DC motor. Rubber tubes, or rubber bands, are pulled over the segments to give an uninterrupted outer surface. The dia. of the roller sections can be set so that the whole roller has a conical form, and the adjustment of the roller segments is determined by sensors which register the lie of the wefts or the stitches. The design ensures that the fabric can be straightened while moving, without imposing excessive longitudinal fabric tension.
