A checking unit enables winning combinations on numbered gaming cards e.g. lottery cards, to be readily identified. The cards have a number of fields that are numbered consecutively from 1 to 49. Each field will have a marked combination of numbers indicating a possible winning sequence. The cards are checked by inserting them into a transparent checking unit that carries the winning sequence. Coincidence between grid and card is readily established.
