An Al-Sn base bearing alloy comprises 3 to 7% by weight of Sn; 1, exclusive, to 10% by weight in total of two or more constituents selected from a group of specified additives consisting of Cr, Si, Mn, Sb, Ti, Zr, Ni, Fe, W, CE, Nb, V, Mo, Ba, Ca and Co, wherein 1, exclusive, to 10% by weight of Cr is contained; 0.1 to 0.8, the latter exclusive, % by weight of Cu and/or Mg; and the remainder of aluminium. The alloy can further contain 9% by weight in total of one or more constituents selected from a group consisting of Pb, Bi, Tl, Cd and In, thereby improving the bearing characteristics. Steel-backed alloys according to the invention may be used for the bearings of internal combustion engines in which spheroidal (nodular) graphite cast iron is used for crankshafts.
