PURPOSE:To compensate the blur of a character due to a deficiency in stroke pressure by generating an error between approximate curves corresponding to two terminal points, by generating a curve for interpolation between two terminal points when the error is less than a prescribed value, and by supplying picture information with the added interpolation curve to a recognition part. CONSTITUTION:A picture from document 1 is converted by photoelectric conversion part 2 into an electric signal, which is stored in thinned-out picture memory 8 by way of quantizing circuit 15, line picture buffer memory 3, one-character picture memory 6, and thinning-out circuit 7 successively. For the 1st time, the contents of memory 8 are processed by recognition processing part 13 and when its recognition is impossible, processing part 13 informs control circuit 14 of that; and this circuit 14 actuates terminal-point detecting circuit 9 and interpolation curve generating circuit 12 and approximate curve generating circuits 10a and 10b generate curves nearing a segment or arc near terminal points corresponding to two terminal points. Then, error detecting circuit 11 detects an error between the approximate curves and interpolated picture information connecting two terminal points together is generated by interpolation curve generating circuit 12 and written in memory 8. |
