Leak testing of drinks bottles before filling - by computer controlled combined test and removal using regulated vacuum

The method is for leak testing drink bottles before they are filled and eliminates damage to filling mechanisms, loss of beverage, and consumer claims for loss of contents or lack of carbon dioxide. It is compatible with the high rates of bottle movement required in a bottling plant. The method involves testing for leaks by vacuum. The bottles without leaks are lifted up by vacuum whilst those with leaks are left behind and rejected by a deflector. The degree of vacuum is regulated so that damage not severe enough to cause liquid leakage or loss of carbon dioxide does not cause rejecting. The leakage potential can be tested by reproducing sealing. A microcomputer can be used for automatic control of the plant.
