<p>This invention relates to a pharmaceutical preparation useful for the treatment of infections and diseases which include, for example, conditions such as nasal inflammation, appendicitis, gastritis, enteritis, alveolar brennorrhea, pudendal lacerations and hemorrhoids. The preparation comprises a single or multiple strain of Lactobacillus as the active ingredient which are grown by the addition of a promoter to a medium which otherwise would not sustain such growth. The promoters include odoriferous Scompounds, odoriferous N-compounds and lower fatty acids or combinations thereof. The strains of this invention are nonpathogenic and capable of antibiotic production. They effectively survive in the growth competition with pathogenic bacteria and can denature selected metabolites, thereby reducing inflammation and swelling in infected areas. The therapeutic effects of these preparations are markedly improved over those of the prior art.</p> |
