Moranolin, a blood sugar-lowering substance, was prod. by fermn. with Streptomyces and Raney Ni hydrogenation there-after. Thus, nojirimycin producing Streptomyces species was shake-cultured for 2 days with aeration at 6-7 l/min. Broth was filtered and treated with MeOH and active C and filtered again. Raney Ni was added to filtrate with shaking for 6 hrs leading the H adsorption and chromatographed on Dowex I and Dowex 50. Column was washed with NH4OH and the eluate was concd. to dryness which resulted moranolin by recrystalization.
