The invention relates to a shaft furnace for heat treatment of materials. The furnace comprises a housing 2 composed of heated sections 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 assembled in a series along the height of the furnace, each section having a tubular part 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14, respectively, with the walls orientated at an angle of 3-4 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the furnace. The tubular parts 10-14 are penetrating partially each other leaving a gap 15, the flow area of a lower portion 16 of each tubular part 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 of the section 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, respectively, being by 20 to 25% lesser than that of the upper end 17 of the tubular part 11 of the section adjacent to said tubular part in the subjacent section 4. The upper ends of the tubular parts are provided with pocket-shaped means 30 located at the places where the gaps 15 are formed, said pocket-shaped means being connected to tubes 29 for leading away gases and vapours from the shaft of the furnace. <IMAGE> |
