PURPOSE:To obtain a latex for a serodiagnostic reagent which is completely free from a nonspecific agglutination reaction and makes an exact diagnosis possible, by copolymerizing, in water, styrene with a specified organic compound with the aid of a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator. CONSTITUTION:(A) One hundred (100)pts.wt. of styrene is copolymerized, in water, with (B) 0.01-70pts.wt. of a compound of the formula, wherein M is an alkali metal and R is an alkyl, in the presence of 0.01-1pt.wt.% 100pts.wt. of (A)+(B), of a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator such as a persulfate such as Na2S2O8. As compound B, a compound of the formula, wherein M is Na and R is a C10-14 alkyl is preferred. A latex agent prepared by sensitizing this latex with an antigen or an antibody is completely free from a nonagglutination reaction which is observed in conventional emulsifier-containing latices, and decreases constantly in agglutination intensity with increase in a dilution ratio of the serum to be tested. Therefore, an exact diagnosis is possible. |
