<p>A one-piece wheel made from glass fibre-reinforced resin is provided with a metal cap for mounting the wheel on to the vehicle hub. The cap has bosses or ribs standing proud to limit the surface area in contact with the hub. The cap and the air gaps surrounding the bosses, etc., protect the wheel from overheating, e.g. if heavy braking induces temp. greater than about 200 deg.C in the supporting hub. Opt. the cap design and ribs thereon are shaped to induce a flow of air radially through the wheel/hub interface, or through passages in the cap, to help keep the wheel cool.</p> |
