PURPOSE:A whitening cosmetic, useful for whitening and beautifying the skin and sunscreen, and containing a monoester obtained by reacting kojic acid with an aliphatic carboxylic acid as an active constitutent. CONSTITUTION:A whitening cosmetic containing a monoester obtained by esterifying a kojic acid solution in pyridine with an aliphatic carboxylic acid chloride, e.g. butyric, caprylic, linoleic or fumaric acid chloride, at room temperature. The content of the monoester is 0.01-10% in a base of the cosmetic. The monoester inhibits the activity of tyrosinase present in the human skin, has a suppressing action on melanization, a high stability to pH, light and heat, good storage stability and oil solubility without undesirable side effects on the human body. |
