<p>PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as a remedy for sequelae of cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage, easily, in high yield, by reducing a piperidinoalkanone having no protecting group at OH directly with sodium borohydride. CONSTITUTION:A piperidinoalkanone of formula I is reduced with sodium borohydride to obtain erythro 2-(4-benzylpiperidino)-1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propanol of formula II. The piperidinoalkanone of formula I is prepared by halogenating the compound of formula III with bromine, etc. in the presence of a solvent, and condensing the resulting alpha-halogeno-propiophenone of formula IV (X is halogen) with 4-benzylpiperidine.</p> |
