<p>An improved apparatus for dissolving gas (particularly oxygen) in liquid (particularly sewage) has an inlet pipe (2) for liquid communicating with the top of a vertical generally cylindrical chamber (8) whose outlet (12) projects a small distance into a horizontal generally cylindrical chamber (16). The liquid undergoes a reduction in velocity in passing from the pipe (2) to the chamber (18), and a change in direction and further reduction in velocity in passing from the chamber (8) to the chamber (16). Bubbles of gas are introduced into the liquid in the pipe (4) from an inlet pipe (6) for gas. Some of the bubbles are carried into the chamber (16) with the liquid. Turbulence created by the change in direction of the liquid helps to disengage undissolved gas from the liquid in the chamber (16). Such bubbles enter the gas space (22) and the gas collected in chamber (24) and returned via recycle pipe (32) to the pipe (4). Oxygenated liquid is discharged through the outlet (34). </p> |
