[Also in Division D1] A platen press for cutting or punching paper or cardboard comprises a device for registering a tool-holding frame 3 relative to a platen 1, the device comprising a cylinder 8, Fig. 3, secured to the platen, the piston 9 of the cylinder having secured thereto one leg of an angle member 10 and pressing downwardly a spring- influenced pin 12 to engage a hole 7 in a lug 6 of the frame 3, the frame also being provided with a fork member 5, Fig. 1, engaging a guide member secured to the platen, and the frame, when registered with the platen, causing the piston of a cylinder (16), Fig. 4 (not shown), to actuate contacts (17) to close an electric circuit (18) to cause operation of the press. The frame is held to the platen by means of hooks 19, Fig. 1, operated by fluid pressure cylinders 20 supplied by conduits 21, the control circuit being modified in that the cylinders (20) Fig. 7 (not shown), are fed at the same time as the cylinder (16) actuating the contacts (17). The fluid-pressure means may be replaced by electrical means. The counter-plate 23, Fig. 9, is registered to the platen 2 by means of a fluid-operated pin 25 engaging a hole 24 in the counter-plate. A circuit, Fig. 10 (not shown), is provided to prevent operation of the press until the frame and counter-plate have been registered and secured to the upper and lower platens respectively. The platen 1 is fixed and the platen 2 movable. Alternatively, the upper platen may be movable and the lower platen fixed or both platens movable.</p> |
