The present invention relates to an arrangement which makes it possible to perform very accurate measurement of the level of the liquid surface 3 in a vessel 4 or other container in spite of a large exchange ratio. The arrangement consists of a liquid-level-sensing member 1 oriented rotatably about a mounting spindle 5, where the position of the mounting spindle 5 is different from the lift centre F of the level-sensing member 1, which makes it possible for the level-sensing member 1, when there is a change in liquid level in the vessel 4, to indicate, by a rotating movement, the level of the liquid in relation to a scale 8 by means of an indicating member 2 which is rigidly connected to the level-sensing member 1. The liquid-level-sensing member 1 is also designed in such a manner that, in all relevant angular positions, it eliminates, entirely or to a great extent, spindle friction on the mounting spindle 5, and if the mounting spindle 5 is disconnected and the level-sensing member floats freely towards the surface 3 of the liquid, the level-sensing member 1 will not tend to try to find any particular angular position but will just as easily be capable of adopting all the relevant angular positions. By virtue of the fact that the nature of the level- sensing member 1 is such, the mounting spindle 5 has only an orienting function and is not loaded, which means that spindle friction is entirely eliminated. In principle, it can be said that the liquid-level- sensing member 1 is to be designed in such a manner that the centre of gravity T of that part 7 of the level- sensing member 1 which is situated above the liquid surface 3 or merely curves the same will always be situated vertically directly above the lift centre F of that part 6 of the level-sensing member 1 situated below the liquid surface 3. The invention also indicates how disruptive surface tension effects are eliminated by virtue of the fact that the level-sensing member 1 having such low lift that merely curves the liquid surface 3 and does not break the same. <IMAGE> |
