Speed control for tape recorder - has friction wheel drive for fast feed forward and rewind operations

A magnetic tape recorder includes a simple mechanism for the electron and operation of fast forward and rewind operations. Tape is transferred between two reels (13,14) and passes around guide rollers and a drive roller (2). The drive contact roller (4) and magnetic pick-up are mounted on a slide carriage that moves vertically. A pair of friction rollers (11,12) may be brought into contact with either of the reels by activating one or other of two solenoids (21, 22) to engage fast feed forward or rewind. If both solenoids are operated, the carriage moves vertically to engage the normal drive.
