Thermoparticulating coating compns. for warning of local overheating in elec. app., esp H-cooled turbine generators, contained epoxy resins, 0.01-0.5 % tetrachlorophthalimide derivs., polyamide amine hardner. Above materials coated to nichrome strips and cured. The coated strips were attached to the housing of a steam turbin generator and an elec. current was passed through the strips to pyrolyze the resin. The marking compd. was easy to identify when the decompn. product was analyzed using a gas chromatograph with an electron capture detector.
