950,575. Crimping and stretching yarns and fibres. ONDERZOEKINGSINSTITUUT RESEARCH N. V. Dec. 3, 1962 [Dec. 5,1961], No. 45460/62. Heading D1F. While a stuffer-box crimping process is starting the gap 10,11 between the circumferential surfaces of the feed rolls 2, 3 and the walls of the crimping tube 1 is closed so that the yarn can no longer pass through the gap by a resilient closure device 9,the closure surface or surfaces of which are made of a material softer than that of the feed rolls. The member 9 may be inside or outside the tube and may consist of a woven, knitted, or braided fabric of synthetic filament yarn, or perhaps consists of a piece of multi-filament tow having a basis of a polyamide or a polyester, and knotted into a ring around the base of the tube 1. The member 9 is pressed by hand or mechanically against the rollers 2, 3 until the yarn wad 7 has reached the required size and it is then raised out of contact with the rolls 2, 3. The stuffer-box crimping process may be combined with a stretching operation. |
