Hospital refuse disposal unit - sterilises random refuse in disposable containers with subsequent drying producing combustible mixture

All refuse is collected without sorting in disposable, but sturdy containers and sealed. The containers are kept in low temperature refrigerators until a sufficient volume has accumulated for bulk transportation in refrigerated trucks, which take the waste to a central disposal installation. The refuse-containing vessels are placed, without being opened, in a sterilizer, where they are subjected to a set steam pressure at a min. temp. of 134 degrees C. The drum-type sterilizer is designed to carry out at the same time a mechanical reduction of size of the entire charge with particular regard to items in the waste which are unaffected by the steam pressure and temperature. The result is a homogenous wet mixture which, after being dried up to 10% moisture content, presents an easily combustible material usable in heat producing equipment.
