An improvement for a steering differential (11) for a tracked vehicle (12) comprising a liquid cooled, hydraulically operated disc brake (10), two of which are normally used upon the differential (11) to brake and steer the vehicle. A number of stationary discs (42) are keyed internally to a brake body (39), with a number of rotating discs (45) dispersed therebetween and splined to a brake axle (36) of the differential (11), the rotating (45) and stationary (42) discs being hydraulically compressed together to apply braking torque to the braking axle (36). Oil or other suitable liquid is pumped through the brake body (39) and radially through grooves (68) on the faces of the discs to prevent excessive heating of the discs and the brake. |
