1,148,374. Bleaching polyamide materials. PRECISION PROCESSES (TEXTILES) Ltd. 1 Aug., 1966 [2 Aug., 1965], No. 33011/65. Heading D1P. Fibres, filaments and woven and knitted goods made from a polyamide are bleached by treating them with an aqueous solution'of peracetic acid containing halide ions having an atomic number of at least 17 and having a pH value of 2.5-5. The polyamide may be polyhexamethylene adipamide or ,sebacamide or polyepsilon caprolactam. The source of halide ions may be an alkali or alkaline earth metal chloride or bromide preferably sodium or potassium chloride or a mixture thereof. 3-8 moles of halide ion may be present in the solution per mole in peracetic acid. The treatment may be effected at 45‹-95‹C. The treated goods may subsequently be treated with sodium or potassium sulphite or bisulphite, rinsed and dried. The dyeing properties of the treated materials are improved. |
