1,148,383. Automatic mixture control. ENERGY CONVERSION Ltd. April 7, 1966 [April 15, 1965], No. 16203/65. Heading G3R. [Also in Division H1] The partial pressure of unreacted fuel in the exhaust stream is sensed by means arranged to control the supply of fuel to a fuel cell. As shown impure hydrogen is fed to anode chamber 1 and the unreacted hydrogen diffuses through a thimble shaped gas diffusion membrane 12 of palladium or a palladium-silver alloy. The membrane 12 closes a chamber divided into two compartments 22, 23 by a contact carrying diaphragm 21. Compartment 23 is filled with gas e.g. hydrogen and for inert gas to provide a reference pressure and the contact carrying diaphragm 21 co-operates with fixed contacts 24, 25 which cause motor 28 to be driven in forward and reverse and control a valve 9 in the inlet or exhaust stream. |
