The invention concerns a method and an apparatus for hardening or drying of photodeveloper colour printed on a sheet material. The method according to the invention is characterised in that it involves transporting the sheet material through a developing zone under a line source 41 with ultraviolet light, wherein the line of the source lies at an angle to the direction of transport motion with a reflector 44 behind the source so that both direct and reflected ultraviolet beams are directed against the sheet material, with a transparent heat absorption filter 31 for infrared light arranged between the sheet material and the ultraviolet light source to filter out between 5 and 50 percent of all direct light from the source.
