Novel compounds of the general formula <FORM:1123565/C2/1> and acid addition salts thereof, in which X represents a halogen atom, or a methyl, trifluoromethyl or methoxy radical and R represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl radical, are prepared, either by N-methylation of the compound of the above formula wherein R is hydrogen by means of a methyl halide or a mixture of formic acid and formaldehyde, or where R is hydrogen by reduction of a compound of the general formula <FORM:1123565/C2/2> N-benzylidene-2-amino-1-phenyl propanes of the last general formula above are prepared by reacting the suitably substituted benzaldehyde with D-, L- or DL-amphetamine. Pharmaceutical compositions having anorexigenic activity comprise compounds of the first general formula above and an inert carrier and are in conventional form for oral or parenteral administration. |
