An electric toaster fitted with a crumb removal device in its base. The base (1) has holes (2) in it covered by a slide (3) also with holes (4) in it. The slide (3) is movable from a rest position in which the base holes (2) and slide holes (4) are not aligned (Figure 1, not shown) to a second position in which the holes (2, 4) are aligned thereby permitting crumbs to drop out of the toaster base (1).
