Method of producing a coupling element for coupling the laser radiating source to a monomode transmission fibre for which purpose the end of the fibre is monotonously flattened. Flattening takes place at a temperature at which the core has a viscosity of 107 to 108.5 poises. A cladding glass which has a viscosity of 1010 - 1011 poises at the flattening temperature is chosen for use with the core glass. This causes the core glass to emerge in the form of a semi-ellipsoidical lens. - -
