In a combined change-speed control and auxiliary throttle control having separate change-speed control and auxiliary throttle control levers 18, 19 selectively movable in a gate 28 provided with lateral recesses 29, 60 defining a neutral position for the change-speed control lever 18 and an engine idle position for the auxiliary throttle control lever 19 respectively, interlocking means prevent movement of the change-speed control lever 18 from its neutral position when the auxiliary throttle control lever 19 is out of its engine idle position and prevents movement of the throttle control lever 19 from its engine idle position when the change-speed control lever 18 is out of its neutral position. The interlocking means comprises a circular hub 24 on the change-speed control lever 18 which co-operates with an abutment surface 31 on the auxiliary throttle control lever 19 so that when one of the levers is in the gate 28 the other lever is held in its lateral recess 29 or 60. The hub 24 of the changespeed control lever 18 is connected to a bush 22 rotatable on a shaft 20 by a resilient connection 25 which biases the lever 18 towards the recess 29. A clearance 62 between the hub 61 of the throttle control lever 19 and the shaft 20 permits the sufficient lateral movement of the lever 19 for it to move from its recess 16 into the gate 28. A rod 35 adjustably connects the hub 24 of the change-speed control lever 18 to a Bowden cable 42 controlling the change-speed gear whilst a rod 78 adjustably connects an arcuate extension 73 of the throttle control lever 19 to a Bowden cable 84 controlling the engine speed. A stop 13A co-operating with a recess 93 in the extension 73 of the throttle control lever limits movement of the throttle control lever to one direction from the idle position. A switch 94 operated by a rod 101 connected to the hub 24 of the change-speed control lever 18 prevents the engine being started unless the change-speed gear is in neutral. The change-speed control lever 18 may select forward or reverse drive for a vehicle in which case an additional pedaloperated throttle control is provided for use during vehicle travel. The auxiliary throttle control being used to drive a power-take-off with the vehicle stationary. |
