The device locks a nut (12) in a predetermined position on a threaded cylindrical part which near its threaded section has several radial superficial grooves. The nut has several slots, which correspond in position to the grooves on the cylindrical part. Locking is achieved with at least one wedge formed as a curved strip, located near the nut on the cylindrical part and which has a tongue-shaped projection. A retainer for the wedge (17) has a projection which engages in one of the nut slots (15). Radial and axial stops determine the relative radial and axial positions of the wedge and the nut.
