PURPOSE:To miniaturize the device, by arranging and forming a read-in unit which is constituted with adjacent location of light emitting elements and photodetectors mutually, on a transparent substrate through the use of thin film technology. CONSTITUTION:A transparent glass substrate 1 is located on an original surface 2 to ne read, and a plurality of read-in units 3-5 are located in line shape broadwise corresponding to the width of original on the substrate 1. The units 3-5 consist of light emitting elements 6-8 to radiate the original surface 2 and photodetectors 9-11 which are located adjacent to them and receives the reflected light from the original surface 2. Further, the elements 6-8 are constituted with EL elements, for example, and the EL elements is constituted by distributing back electrodes 6c-8c located on transparent electrodes 6a-8a on the substrate 1 via EL layers 6b-8b. Further, the elements 9-11 located adjacent to the elements 6-8 are constituted with photoconductive elements which provide upper electrodes 9c-11c on transparent electrodes 9a-11a located on the substrate 1 via layers such as CdS layers 9b-11b. |
