1,112,708. Variable speed gear. INPOWER WORKS (PROPRIETARY) Ltd. 21 Sept., 1966 [1 Oct., 1965], No. 42085/66. Heading F2D. In a variable speed planet gear wherein an input carrier 12 carries planet pinions 24 meshing an output sun gear 18 and rotation of the planet wheels is opposed by vaned wheels 22 which scoop liquid from an annular layer around the periphery of a drum 14, the vaned wheels are without end plates and co-operate with arcuate end shrouds 43.1, 43.2 which permits rapid emptying of the spaces between the vanes when beyond the shrouds. The vanes may be curved or straight and may co-operate with a circumferential shroud 45. The drum 14 may, as shown, be fast with the carrier 12 as may (Fig. 3, not shown) be a separate freely rotatable drum surrounding the carrier. The angular position of the shrouds may be adjustable (Fig. 14, not shown). Fig. 13 (not shown) is a torque/speed characteristic. |
