The process is intended for use in the manufacture of leaf springs for motor vehicles which have tapering ends with rolled mounting eyes and are heat-treated. The sand-blasted and completed spring leaf is visually inspected for surface defects which are then removed by locally grinding a small-area flat portion using a fine-grain grinding or emery disc with a barrel-shaped contour. Local grinding marks are then removed by shot-blasting using hard spherical shot. Final blasting may be in two stages with reducing intensity and/or particle size.
