A compound corresponding to the following general formula: <IMAGE> wherein Y represents hydrogen or 1- cyclohexenyl; R represents C1-C4 alkylene, vinylene, phenylene, cyclohexenylene, 1,2-dihalo vinylene, 1-methyl vinylene or ethylidene; R<1> and R<2>, which may be the same or different, each represents C1-C4 alkyl; and R<3> represents hydrogen or C1-C6 alkyl; provided that when Y represents 1- cyclohexenyl, then R represents C1-C4 alkylene and R<3> represents C1-C6 alkyl; or a chloride, bromide, acetate, sulphate or phosphate thereof is disclosed. Such compounds may be used to retard the ripening of picked fruit, vegetables or other merchantable materials of plant origin. |
